North Carolina’s Newest Award-Winning Winery
By Glenn Arnette, lll
It all starts over a little sip of wine! There is nothing more relaxing than an afternoon visiting one of North Carolina vineyards. Recently discovered just outside of Hendersonville, North Carolina is the Burntshirt Vineyards, North Carolina’s newest award winning Winery. Now the “burnt shirt” is the name of the mountain where farmers use to toss their shirts in the fire while burning off the land for good luck! Thus how the Vineyard name was decided!
Two things to do while there is to tour the Vineyards and enjoy a wine tasting in their quaint “little old wine tasting room. When we were there we meet two fantastic and very knowledgeable people; i.e., Maria Collier and Andy Carrein, who were our tasting associates.
Maria Collier who also works at another part of the establishment, “A Day In The Country” just up the road, is a most delightful and fun person to have while doing the taste. She certainly makes it more interesting with her added stories about the vineyard and living in the Hendersonville area. She is a tasting room associate!
Andy Carrein hails from Belgium and works in every aspect of the wine. Hopefully on a day you might visit, you will have time to enjoy his stories about the vineyards and the grapes. He is also a tasting room associate.
The facility can handle just about any size, so plan a party and after the tasting, purchase a bottle or two of the specialty wines and sit in the rocking chairs on the porch or out at the tables on the patio overlooking the vineyard. It is a perfect setting to relax and let your worries pass you by!
Some of the wines included in your tasting are Gruner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Riesling, Vidal Blanc, Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Altitude 3400 Red Wine Blend. They also offer seasonal limited edition wines including Harvest Moon, Chardonnay and Holiday Red Table Wine.
Enjoying some of their favorite wine while visiting Burntshirt, we ran into Linda and Greg Pulling from Kernersville, North Carolina and they were raving about the place!
We obviously loved the wines we sampled, as we left with six bottles. Delicious and very tasty!
