A special thank you should go to the Executive Director of Folkmoot USA,
Angeline Schwab With here dedication to bringing new energy to the festival, as well as bringing to fruition our new vision for year-round programming. Remember the Folkmoot Center is open year round and is a year-round cultural, educational, economic and creative hub for Western North Carolina.
Joe Sam Queen
There are literally hundreds of Friends of Folkmoot and supporters who give their time and money to see that this is one of the best organizations in the Country. The Folkmoot Friendship Center located in Waynesville, North Carolina has become a campus for global engagement. Thanks to the help of Representative Joe Sam Queen, as the Folkmoot Campaign Chairman, he is working to secure the future by launching a $1.2 million fundraising program to continue this collective vision and continue to make it a reality for Haywood County and the World.
Who would have thought as a newcomer to Western North Carolina that such an event would ever demand worldwide attention. After years and years of work, it is truly a spectacular gathering of unbelieveble performers, all working extremely hard with back to back performances over the ten day period. There is never a dull momeent from costume changes, greet and meets, to the travels with performances to over 12 Western North Carolina communities.
FOLKMOOT: "...a meeting of the people." " A Festival started in the 12th century in England
As this was my first time attending FOLKMOOT USA, I now realize that I have missed some exciting times over the past 32 years of the North Carolina's International Folk Festival. This recognized worldwide event is held each year around the middle of July and brings International performers to Western North Carolina for entertainment and cultural exchange. Now that I know what FOLKMOOT is all about, this is definitely something I would highly recommend to you and your family. You should plan to be a part of next year and the years to come.

The FOLKMOOT Gala Champagne and Dessert Reception was the official kickoff to the days of celebration for the Summer Folk Festival, an "estravaganza of heritage music and dance that also garners cultural understanding and acceptance." This party was given to honor the Friends of Folkmoot, donors and sponsors and what a crowd gathered at the old Stompin' Grounds in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. From the moment of arrival and for over three hours the world danced and the audience gave standing ovations accented with loud screams of "BRAVO!" The Reception brought all ages together and some were even pulled on to the dance floor to learn dance steps and share the experience with the professionals. Frankly, it was just a wonderfulFrom Waynesville, Canton, Burnsville, Flat Rock, Clyde, Cullowhee, Cherokee to Ashville the dancers will perform in many ventues. It starts the adventure with a parade down Main Street in Waynesville and ends 10 days later with a Canlelight closing at Stuart Auditorium at Lake Junaluska. Truly, this is like the Olympics! From countries waving their flags, the dance, the music performed by their own musicians, languages and so much more, you are in a world class event for sure!
Those participating the year come from CHILE, ECUADOR, ESTONIA, FRENCH CANADA, INDONESIA, PHILIPPINES, PUERTO RICO and the EASTERN BAND OF CHEROKEE.
There is no question that FOLKMOOT USA is "Where the world meets on Main Street!"
