So enjoy yourself and bring the entire family!  You know what makes Highlands great?  YOU!

Never let it be said that you have not taken the time to enjoy the delightful surrounding of this wonderful mountain town, HIGHLANDS,

Now back to the Highlands Inn!  There are ghosts and losts of history dating to over 130 years.  From the Elephants crossing the mountains, to many historical renovations, you have the chance to relive history at its very best.  One of the most beautiful rooms in Highlands or Weddings, Birthday celebrations, Meetings and more is the Sequoyah Room, formally the famous Showroom where a few years back you could see stage productions featuring the music of Cole Porter, Lerner and Lowe, Rodgers and Hart,  Gershwin and more.  THIS PLACE HAS THE HISTORY FOR YOU TO ENJOY!  There rooms today are beautifully appointed with antiques, flat screens, air conditions, private baths and far more than you can imagine.  THE PRICE IS RIGHT!

.........and so many more.  You must take time to enjoy each place on the Main Street!

Highlands is not just a one day visit.  There is so much to do.  Dining alone can be found indoors, outdoors, on porches, under umbrella's and along the Lake.  This is definately a place for the "Ladies Who Lunch!"

For the date, special evening or just another lover's moment, evening dining is at its best.  From my favorites; i.e., WOLFGANG'S RESTAURANT AND WINE BISTRO, MADISON'S RESTAURANT, LAKESIDE RESTAURANT to the quaint ON THE VERANDA, just to name a few, where you will savor each and every bite and will want your evening to last forever!

Now imagine your time walking and shopping along the Main Street.  There is much variety in each and every shop including the two Christmas Shops to get you into the Holiday Spirit, just a few months away! (Highlands' Original Christmas Shop, THE CHRISTMAS TREE and the CHRISTMAS COTTAGE.

Now here are a few places you must see while shopping!

For the men and the ladies who shop for men, T J BAILEY FOR MEN and the GALLERY (established in 1985) is the Neiman Marcus of Highlands.  Owned and operated by great friends, Anita and John Lupoli, you will find only the best in merchandise while shopping.  This is not a Penny or Belk type store, it is the quality of fashion and styles found in Atlanta, New York and California!  Congratulations!  They are located in Town Square at 343 C Main Street right in the heart of the town.

I have two favorite places I must visit when in Highlands.  The number one is the STONE LANTERN, (established in 1960)  Ralph, the owner, along with all of his associates offer the finest in Antiques, Jewelry, Flowers and Gifts.  This is also the headquarters for all of your ikebana supplies.  Don't expect the see everything in your first visit.  Just viewing the floral arrangements will take quite-a-bit of time.  Be sure to tell Ralph that Glenn told you to stop by!  That alone will get you a Ralph smile! They are located at 395 Main Street.  828-526-2769.

You can not imagine how many wonderful shops there are in Highlands.  And without question you can even enjoy one of the greatest auction houses in the Country know the millions as SCUDDER'S GALLERIES!

Through the years generations have gathered into stately mountain homes and enjoy the vacations by getting away from the rush of everyday life and the hot Summers.  In 2013 there was a population of 927 people, but during the Spring, Summer and Fall, plan to search for parking spaces during the day and making reservations for dinner at night in some of the finest restaurants this side of Atlanta!

Old Edwards Inn and Spa

Highland Inn, a center focal point for the entire Main Street

At over 4000 feet you are sitting on top of the mountain where you will always find the locals extending their hand with a warm welcome for all.  Highlands is unique with wonderful shops, a fantastic Market with just about everything you can imagine and the Highlands Playhouse with some of the most unusual productions found throughout the hills.

Just a short drive from Franklin, Cashiers and Asheville is a paradise of living, shopping and entertainment.  At one time I had the pleasure of owning one of the Historic Landmarks known as the Highlands Inn.  At that time back in the early 80's, it was a wonderful community of friendly people and many visitors coming from Florida, Atlanta, Georgia and North Carolina.  It has become one of the most popular of all the mountain communities where one can relax and enjoy perfect weather and a vacation to long remember.
